About Euro Stoxx 50 Index

The Euro STOXX 50 Index is second largest European stock market barometer having a market capitalization weighted stock index of 50 large, blue-chip European companies operating within Eurozone nations. It lists the shares of the 50 largest companies from all over Europe. Components are selected from the Euro STOXX Index which includes large-, mid- and small-cap stocks in the Eurozone. It also includes companies from Switzerland and the UK – non-euro countries whose companies cannot be included in the EuroStoxx 50.

The securities contained in the EuroStoxx 50 are weighted according to their market capitalization and free float. Two variants of the EuroStoxx 50 are calculated: Firstly, there is the price index, comparable with the SMI, the index level of which displays the average of the shares contained within it and which does not take dividend payments into account. Secondly, there is the dividend-corrected performance index, similar to the SMIC.

The inclusion of a company in the EuroStoxx 50 does not depend on defined criteria and does not take place on specified dates. Instead, a joint venture between the Swiss Stock Exchange SWG Group, Deutsche Börse AG, and Dow Jones & Company decides whether a share is to be included or excluded.
